A single specimen of Vieitezia luzmurubeae was found on collecting five Phallusia mammillata, Neptune's heart sea squirt, to check for the presence of the nemertean at Torquay Marina, Torquay, Devon, 11.07.18. This is the first record of the species for Devon and it is also the first time Vieitezia luzmurubeae has been directly associated with Phallusia mammillata in the UK. Vieitezia luzmurubeae is a known associate of Phallusia mammillata in Spain where it was first found in 2010.

Specimens above found in a deep cavity lined with Baked bean ascidian, Dendrodoa grossularia, at Godrevy Point, near Hayle Cornwall. 08.06.16. This is the first 'natural' site in the UK for Vietezia luzmurubeae, previously the species has only been found at marinas on the River Fal.

Species above found in a sample of fouling taken from a marina in Falmouth, Cornwall. 07.05.15.

The species is probably associated with the sea squirt, Ciona intestinalis at the marina.

The species here was first discovered off NW Spain in 2010 and was the subject of a paper by Professor Juan Junoy. Professor Juan Junoy and Fernando Ángel Fernández-Álvarez M.Sc confirmed the species as a new species for the UK.

The author of this website has now found three new southern species of nemerteans in the UK (Cornwall ), they include Nemertopsis bivittata, Lineus grubei and Vieitezia luzmurubeae.

people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
