Stramonita floridana, the Florida rock snail, has washed-up four times on American fishing floats around the UK cost in Dec./Jan. 2015/16. One juvenile specimen was found in Kent, four specimens were then found on a float in Dorset, then one in Cornwall, and then two on a single float in Dorset. What specialist beachcombers are finding is the tip of the iceberg. It is not known if the species can survive in the UK, but the have colonized areas of Spain already.
Stramonita floridana, Stramonita haemastoma floridana, Stramonita haemastoma, Thais floridana, Florida rock snail or Florida purple.
