A live juvenile Loggerhead sea turtle with Lepas hillii Gooseneck barnacles at its rear was found stranded on the shore at Gwithian, Cornwall, 06.01.16. The turtle was immediately taken by its finders, David Fenwick (APHOTOMARINE) and Dr. Paul Gainey, to Blue Reef Aquarium at Newquay where it could receive the right care and attention.
Blue Reef Aquarium have named her Tallulah, and have done an absolutely fantastic job of looking after her since she was found, and in three months she has nearly doubled her weight and has grown considerably.
Tallulah was released off Spain with help from the Irish Navy, 05.05.16. Sadly she was too small to be tagged so we'll not know what progress she makes.
Having found her I am so pleased with the outcome. 47 turtles stranded around the UK and Ireland in the winter of 2015/16, only about four were released back into the wild after a period of rehabilitation. Well done Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay; and thanks to the Irish Navy for their kind assistance.
