Specimen above found on a discarded shell valve of the Great scallop, Pecten maximus, on the lowershore at North Quay, Hayle, Cornwall. 29.09.14.
The specimens above represent something that has been taken away from its habitat, discarded, and allowed to desiccate on a beach. They may represent the species but they are also specimens that were likely stressed beyond recovery.
Polycarpa violacea was first discovered in the Menai Straight, Wales by Joshua Alder in 1862 on a shell valve of the Great Scallop.
