Species found on Lithothamnion in an uppershore pool at Skilly, Newlyn, Cornwall. 17.03.17.
A small scrape sample was taken and placed in a tube for examination under a microscope. The species was found not to be encrusting the Lithothamnion as it appeared to do but was made up of clear filaments with green cells at their tips. Under a stereozoom microscope the alga looked like it was made up of very fine bundles of cotton wool. The images above were taken of one of these bundles. The green cell tips are approx. 20um in length.
Tetraselmis marina syn. Prasinocladus marinus.
