Probable identification, waiting verification from an expert. Specimen found after washing sea squirts, tunicates, that were picked off a rope at Newlyn Marina, Newlyn, Cornwall. 31.05.16.
This parasitic species is likely from Ciona intestinalis, the Yellow vase sea squirt; or Dirty sea squirt, Ascidella aspersa. Species here was found after the sediment in the bottom of the collection container was passed through a 1mm square hole plastic sieve (a 99p one from a supermarket). The strained material was washed in fresh seawater before being placed in a container for later inspection under a stereomicroscope.
