Specimen found in a splash pool at Skilly, near Mousehole, Cornwall, 07.07.18.

The species, whatever it is, took the form of a pink mat on the outer surface of the Gut Weed, Ulva intestinalis, the speculative cause a purple sulphur bacteria, similar to or perhaps the genus Chromatium.

people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
